Fit · UK first

UK 8 is not US 8.

Men’s UK sizes sit about one full size below US. Women’s conversion is messier. The converter below uses the most common adult mappings; always try on when the shop will let you, because lasts differ more than charts admit.

Brand notes that actually matter

Nike & Jordan

Most Dunks and Air Force 1s run true to UK size for an average last. Air Max 90s can feel snug in the toebox. Jordan 1 High often wants a thin sock; Jordan 4s are more generous. If you are between sizes on a Dunk, many UK wearers stay true rather than going up, then lace them loose.

adidas

Sambas and Spezials often feel narrow. Gazelles vary by year. Boost runners (Ultraboost) are sock-like — trust the CM measurement more than the UK stamp. Forum and Campus cupsoles sit closer to Nike TTS.

New Balance

The reason people with wide feet stay loyal. 990 and 2002r in D width are already kinder than a Dunk; 2E is widely stocked in the UK and is the first thing to ask for in a shop if your little toe has opinions. Length is usually true to UK size.

Asics & runners

Gel-Kayano and GT-2000 follow running-last logic: a thumb of space at the toe. Gel-1130 and Gel-NYC sit more like lifestyle shoes and can feel shorter. Measure both feet in the afternoon; fit the longer one.

Measure at home

  1. Stand on paper in the socks you will actually wear, heel against a wall.
  2. Mark the longest toe on both feet. Measure heel-to-mark in millimetres.
  3. Use the longer foot. Convert millimetres to centimetres and match the CM column — not the Instagram caption.
  4. If a shop has a Brannock, use it. It still beats a phone app.
